The whole concept of an omnipotent God taking a "rest" seems pretty dumb to me.
But, OK, say I buy into that. So how am I supposed to "enter into his rest"?
By working my a$$ off!!

i would like to think of myself as an academic.
im starting my second degree and i enjoy research.
when i see a statement backed up by references and support from a credible source, sometimes i get excited.

as some of you may know, i am working with trailerfitter and cantleave in helping amelia with her efforts to complain about the latest "apostates are mentally diseased" article.
she has an appointment with local police tomorrow afternoon, as she has lodged a complaint under the 'hate crimes' act.
it has been suggested that this issue may merit some media coverage, and with this in mind i have prepared a draft press release.
rebel8, I bow to you.
Very concise. Right on the money.
Being a wordsmith of your caliber is on my "someday before I die" list.
Thanks,

it is his first that we have celebrated!
his mom got him a cake with candles and sang happy birthday to him.
Oops. Happy B'day as well to cantleave's son, diest and noni1974!!!

Happy Birthday to serenitynow's nephew and mrsjones's daughter!!!
My family has all celebrated their 2nd birthdays now.
We've all become "terrible twos" together.

Overall, I like it. The opening sentences are a tad sensationalistic, IMO, but that's just one reader's opinion.
Also, I would suggest a rewording of this sentence:
The claim that those who disagree with the Witnesses are “mentally diseased” stems from the Church’s internal version of the Bible.
I would change it to read "....stems from the Church's "New World Translation" of the Bible.
"internal version" implies that the JW's have tweaked the Bible to suit their own doctrines. We know they have, but eliminating this particular jab at the JWs MIGHT keep an on-the-fence JW from rejecting the article entirely.
Again, a real bang-up job overall.
Best of luck.

some jw relatives just left from visiting me.
we don't talk much about religion.
it's best it stay that way.
Very well done.
Thanks for bringing it to JWN.
And, all the best to you on your journey.

for me, it's the waste of precious time and being lied to.. stupid time consuming things to do that are utterly worthless!
and on top of that being told that you were going to live forever on paradise if you followed their decrees..
Not being allowed to watch the original Star Trek series.
(Our Mom thought we'd get too horny seeing those mini-skirts. She was right, but still.)

does anybody remember the old apostate guy they called mr. coffee?
back in the late 80s when i was at brooklyn he would dress in a suit, have a book bag, and come and stand in front of the 124 bldg or sometimes over by the towers hotel.
he'd easily put in auxillary pioneer hours.
Mr. Coffee, and later, his unwelcome sidekick, CoffeeMate were highlights of several parent-financed Bethel recruiting trips. I enjoyed the trips but never signed up.
"You get up in the morning. You get your shot of coffee! You go to work. You come back for lunch. You get another shot of coffee! SLAVES!!"
Thanks for that bizarre trip down memory lane.

pastor charles taze russell died on a train outside pampas texas in october of 1916.. shortly afterward a phonecall was placed to j.f.rutherford that "the old man is dead.".
as we all know, rutherford wasted no time.
he engineered a series of moves that placed himself at the helm of a publishing company.
Essentially, this sounds like a re-phrasing of the "What Good Have JWs Done?" question.
Or am I missing something?

i received the following email from a former jw that i thought to share.
note: i retyped the boe letter that was sent from the christian congregation of jehovahs witnesses to all congregations in the us.
the letter is authentic.
"But you, when making gifts of mercy, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, that your gifts of mercy may be in secret; the your Father who is looking on in secret will repay you." Matthew 6:3,4
Sorry Brothers. I take Jesus words very seriously. That's why all my donations are in cash. Not being able to deduct it from my taxes is a small price to pay for obedience.
*smug alert*
Walks off.
